Yes i am bad with computers, well not that bad but...ya know!!!!

I have started another map (after messing up the scripting and GTA2 with my last rushed attempt) and i am trying to do a highway, a raised highway, now i have the smallest slope in the world and i need it to go higher but i just cant do it!!! What do i do!?!

Also can you mix the sty wil and bil file tiles in one map or is sty all you need!?!

Also where are the lamposts!?!

Also how do you add water!?!

ALSO sorry last one, The air, pavement, road and field parts are for what exactly!?!

Maybe you need a map making turorial, i might know a few turorials about it, and the slope whats 1 block big... cars cant climb it, except with a trick, holding space and driving up while having some speed, but normal computer player cars cant climb it. And you cant make it any higher, max is Z level 6 for blocks, 7 for lights.

And you could make your own style file, by just... maybe copying one, and changeing it by switching tiles for your favorites.

And EVERY style has water, make sure you animate it, else you might not drown in it, but get more stuck.(And animation is possible with Edit > Animation, and double click after selecting new, to add tiles, not too hard.)

And im sure there are some lampposts somewhere, and mape them flat, in block info, having the black stuff around it makes it... not very good looking.

And Air you fall trough(Obviously) Pavement is where peds walk on, Road is where cars go on, and Field is where you can walk on, but no peds or cars spawn. Also needed for train tracks, with arrows to lead the train.

Could you send me the link for the map editor, i found a editor but it only shows sloping for roofs, and when i try to make a higher one it all goes a bit mad!!!! Rolling Eyes

I dont know any very good map turorial to help you trough every basic thing, i could search, you too, i guess, lol, and ill see if i can find a GTA2 Editor download.
Edit: Found 1 download, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Its on Gouranga.com, or something.
Edit2: [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including the GTA2 editor, on GTAzz.
Edit3: [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], on GTATools.com. Does not include a link to GTA2Editor trough, does have a link to the handy mis pad(good for scripting GTA2.).
Edit4: [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], for GTA2 scripting and mapping. Its on the Project Cerbera site, or whatever the name is exactly.

And it might be your PC, doing weird when you do weird with map editor, the editor dislikes working on Win XP SP 1 and 2, trough seems to work better on SP 2. It works good on Win 98, or whatever it was, ect.

Oh yeah, some downloads might be a little corrupt. Maybe thats the problem. And all map editors are same version.

Look in that menu for slopes FOR A NUMBER! Press 2, then try again, while you select 2 blocks at a same time, at least.
Edit: maybe we need to talk somewhere, like on the GTA2 GameHunter, or something? Or hamachi, maybe, easier then spamming up the forum, lol.

You cannot mix tiles from diffrent sty files on one map... Unless you make your own sty file... But forget about this - it's complicated Smile

air button - it is used only as "delete" Razz
air tiles - everything will go through it...
pavement - on this pedestrians will appear
road - cars will be driving here, pedestriants wont run when they see moving car on a road
field - no cars, no peds on it - use for roofs, grass, closed places etc...
building - fills tiles with few textures - remember that top of it is automaticly set to AIR, so if you somehow be on top of it you will fall inside...

Hi again.....
The floor of he map editor has another floor underneath, lets say i wanted to make a pool, could i delete the area needed from the top area and use the bottom area as the bottom of the pool!?!

I cant understand it much, but as long as you land on water, i guess its fine, and i dont advice to put water as high as your ground level, its a bit annoying, and peds cant even jump over it! Else maybe post a screenshot of what you mean, if possible.

Else, maybe you could make a water tile, and dont put it on field,air or road, just let it air, and make some stuff under it. Do make it either that you drown under the floor you fall trough, or have some way up again. And might need walls too, lol.

This is a shot, as u can see the floor (that the building is on) then a gap and another layer underneath (i have marked 1 + 2 but you prob cant see em!!! Anyway can i use the bottom layer aswell as the top (with the roads and buildings on)!?!

yes you may use this layer, but remember, that you will leave no space for water or sth...

and these options

Arrows - cars will be generates and driving in green arrow direction (press 2 to see those arrows if some part was set to "road" - it takes some time to do correct turns with cars going as they should)

green - cars will spawn here and drive on it - normal roads
red - no cars will spawn here, no computer player cars will follow it, only your car will "snap" to arrow direction - it means, when car is directed almost to the arrow direction it will automaticly correct it path to be exactly to that direction (top, bottom, left or right)

LID - name of face selected on "face selector" - this "cross" of squares

wall, bullet - I don't know if it work - it is doubled option to set texture "apperance" - like fences that stops players, but not bullets, poles, that stop neither the player, nor the bullets.... I think that this 2 options simply doesn't work.

flat - to make texture transparent (I mean - 100% black parts of texture only) and to make it visible from opposite side (like fences)

flip - ignore - you flip and rotate texture when placing it
rotate - ignore, see above

filter 1 and filter 2 - options to add shadows to textures - like if you make something hanging above the road and you want to have road under it little darker - it is seen only when playing in "noon" mode

So i am gonna make an arena map with no cars or peds just weapons, do i need to script it still!?! If so what with!?!

Also if i want to test it do i have to script it all into my GTA single player (last time i did that it messed up where i was at he saved point in the main game)!!! I only want it for multiplayer so if i just stick the map in gta/data compressed would it be available on GH for me to test!?! Hmmmmmmmmm

Not only the above but.......i made a small arena and i want to put water around the areas between buildings, how do i do it?? I made an animation and press ok but nothing happens!!! Where do i get it!!! Also do i put the water on the first layer or second and do i set it to air!?! Hmmmmmmmmmm!!!

If you make something animated, it only shows animated in-game.

And the water thing, if your using the lowest ground, why not select your whole arena, and hold alt and press q? makes it all go up 1 Z level.
Then you could edit some under the arena, if you make water as high as the ground, peds will drown when they even jump over it!

EDIT: for weapons, you need to script them, make them in script, isnt too hard trough.
And for it to be selectable for multiplayer, you need to make an .mmp file.

To make a .mmp file, make first a... .txt file, and put in it the following:

Description = How your map will be named in select screen
PlayerCount = How many players, min 1, max 6.


Change "MapName" with the name of your map(What you named the file).
StyleName should be the style the map is using, bil.sty, ste.sty, or wil.sty, there are custom styles with some maps too.
Script name: just enter the filename of whats your script called.
The others are obvious enough.

And then, after thats done, save it somewhere, but, save it as an .mmp! And leave the coding thing as ANSI, no need to change that. Else just save it as .txt and then change the extension into an .mmp.

EDIT: You cant set to air, with some button, just forget to use the button to change it into field, ect, if you dont change a newly created blocks surface type, it will stay air.
Or simpler said, make a block and dont change it except tiles.
You can press 2 when your busy building on main screen, to view types, red = air, field = green, road = black, and grey = pavement. Press 1 to change view back to normal. 3 and 4 also have an effect.
